22 Trailers Used by Edison Hit by $1.3-Million Fire

A fire caused an estimated $1.3 million in damage to buildings in Rosemead containing temporary offices of the Southern California Edison Co., authorities said.
The fire Monday struck 22 trailers joined side-by-side in a configuration that formed a 50- by 200-foot, one-story office in the 2200 block of Walnut Grove Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Chuck Gutierrez.
Edison spokesman David Barron said the office space was occupied by computer programmers using desk-top equipment. About 65 firefighters brought the blaze under control by 11:15 a.m.
The column of smoke from Rosemead, 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, was visible from as far as San Fernando, approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown.
