A San Diego man died Friday night at Sharp Memorial Hospital of head and internal injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle, the county coroner said Saturday.
James Kelly Murphy, 21, of the 2300 block of Manzana Way, was northbound Thursday night on 70th Street in La Mesa when he collided with a vehicle making a left turn onto Stanford Avenue from a southbound lane of 70th Street, Lt. John Oleksow of the La Mesa Police Department said.
Murphy was traveling at a high rate of speed without any headlights, Oleksow said. The victim was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Sharp, where he underwent surgery, Deputy Coroner Bill Leard said.
La Mesa police said drunk driving was a contributing cause of death.
Neither the driver of the other vehicle, Anna Ferrez, 19, nor several passengers were hurt, police said.
