Cheap Shot

Big-budget producer Gail Anne Hurd (“Aliens,” “Terminator”) just finished shooting low-budget psychological thriller “Bad Dreams” as the maiden effort of her newly established No Frills Films, to be distributed by Fox. It centers on a young woman (Jennifer Ruben) haunted by horrifying visions that come true, with first-timer Andrew Fleming directing.
Hurd plans to make two or three low-budget genre films annually using new talent: “The idea behind No Frills was to make movies for under $6 million with talented people who deserve a solid first shot. The bottom-line economics make it a favorable proposition for a studio but right now we’re working on a picture-by-picture basis.”
