Three locomotives pulling a 60-car freight train into San Diego from Barstow derailed at Ash Street about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, causing the first Los Angeles-bound Amtrak train of the day to be canceled and the second to be delayed shortly, railway officials reported.

There were no injuries in the derailment, which occurred at a switch while the train was moving at less than 10 miles per hour, Santa Fe Railway spokesman Mike Martin said.

The cause of the derailment was under investigation, he said.

The track was reopened at 8 a.m. Saturday, after passengers for the 6:45 a.m. Amtrak train from San Diego to Los Angeles were taken to Los Angeles by bus. The 8 a.m. train was delayed 30 minutes.

The three locomotives were put back on their rails at 2 p.m., Martin said.
