John C. Pope, 38, senior vice president and chief financial officer of AMR Corp., which operates American Airlines, has resigned to serve that same post at rival United Airlines.
AMR said most of Pope’s duties would be assumed by Donald J. Carty, senior vice president of airline planning.
“Jack Pope is the best in the business,” said Allegis Chairman and United President and CEO Stephen Wolf. “He’s an aggressive financial expert and will be a strong addition to the Allegis and United teams as we move forward in our effort to firmly position United as the nation’s pre-eminent airline.”
