Local News in Brief : Tax Measure Considered
- Share via
The El Segundo City Council will hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall to decide whether to put a measure on the ballot that would impose a 2% utility user’s tax on business.
Last fall, voters overwhelmingly defeated a proposal calling for a 4% utility user’s tax to be paid by both business and residents. Although the new proposal would exempt residents, council members are discussing whether a trash-collection fee should be levied on homeowners in place of a tax.
Officials say the 2% utility user’s tax, which would raise about $2 million a year, is needed to balance the city’s budget.
