Jeff Softley felt it appropriate that the photo of the Enterprise was accidently inverted in a recent Calendar article on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (Calendar Letters, Jan. 3). The error was symbolic of the new series, he said.
Perhaps Softley’s TV is inverted. He called “Star Trek: The Next Generation” a dog. Yes, a purebred.
The show is intelligently written, beautifully directed and superbly acted. The camaraderie among the crew is every bit as appealing as that in the original series. What is most effective in the new show is its reliance on compassion and intellect to solve story-line conflicts rather than on flashy laser guns and goliath warships.
Bravo to “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and a hearty Boo to Softley.
