Japan Expects to Top U.S. in Third World Aid

Japan will surpass the United States to become the world’s largest donor of government aid to developing countries, a Foreign Ministry official claimed today.

Japan has budgeted $10 billion for aid to the Third World in the financial year beginning April 1, the official said. The U.S. aid budget in the current fiscal year ending next September is $8.8 billion, said the official from the ministry’s Economic Cooperation Bureau.
