China’s Teachers Face Exams to Keep Jobs

BEIJING — Teachers in primary and middle schools will be given qualification examinations, and those who fail will be assigned to other jobs, the China Daily newspaper reported Wednesday.
The State Education Commission said China’s 8.2 million primary and middle school teachers have until 1991 to pass the exam and obtain a teaching qualification certificate, the newspaper said. The exam on 42 subjects, including teaching methods and educational psychology, will be given annually.
