NICOSIA, Cyprus — Iran on Sunday hanged four men accused of spying for Iraq and planting bombs that caused many casualties, Iran’s national news agency IRNA reported.
The agency, monitored in Nicosia, said one of the four, Reza Nazari, was hanged in central Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Square for setting off three car bombs in the capital, one near the rail station, which killed or wounded many people.
IRNA said Nazari had also driven explosive-rigged vehicles from Iraq to Tehran where he delivered them to accomplices for other bombings and that he had collaborated with the Iraqi secret service and “anti-revolutionary grouplets.”
It said the other three men were hanged in the western city of Bakhtaran for spying for Iraq and planting bombs.
