Women’s Tennis Tournament in Scottsdale to Be Held in September Instead of March

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Virginia Slims of Arizona tennis tournament has a new promoter and new playing dates, organizers announced.
The annual women’s amateur and professional tourney will be held on the week of Sept. 12--after the U.S. Open--instead of its customary date in mid-March.
The event still will be held at the Registry Resort here.
Jane Stratton, who brought the tournament to Arizona in 1986, said she has sold her share of the event to Australian promoter Graeme Plum.
Stratton, who works for Promotion Sports in Del Mar, Calif., said Plum wanted the date change because “there are so many other events in March and the players are gearing up for clay tournaments.”
Plum is managing director of Australian Sports Marketing.
