Black & Decker Corp. reported a 40% increase net income for its first quarter of fiscal 1988 on a 16% rise in revenue. The company noted that sales improvement was broad-based among power tools and household products, and across geographic markets. Net earnings and sales were the highest for any quarter in the firm’s history.
