Members of a polygamist clan holed up in a mountain compound near Marion, Utah, since the bombing of a Mormon chapel 10 days ago ventured from their refuge to seize loudspeakers police had used to try to force an end to the standoff. The speakers had aimed a sporadic, high-pitched whine at the compound’s main log house, said police spokesman Doug Bodrero. Later, a longtime friend of the clan visited their compound, delivering milk and baby food as a show of good faith by police. Addam Swapp, 27, and Vickie Singer, 44, the clan’s leaders, are charged in federal warrants with the bombing.
