Interior Secretary Donald P. Hodel has granted Gov. George Deukmejian’s request for an additional 30 days for public comment on the proposed sale of oil leases off the Northern California coast, an Interior Department spokesman said. Deukmejian on Jan. 11 asked Hodel to extend the period for comment on the draft environmental impact statement on Lease Sale 91, which could involve as many as 24 oil rigs off the coast of Mendocino and Humboldt counties. The new deadline is March 14, Interior Department spokesman Bob Walker said in Washington. However, the extension will not affect public hearings on the lease scheduled Monday and Wednesday in Eureka and Fort Bragg, respectively. The actual sale is scheduled to take place in February, 1989.
