POP LP CHART : ‘Dancing’ LP Steps Into Top Spot

The “Dirty Dancing” sound track, for the past few weeks never more than a step away from the No. 1 position on the Billboard magazine pop album chart, waltzed back into No. 1. The release of the videocassette--a top rental since it came out in early January--has helped keep interest in the sound track alive. Recently, it crossed the 5-million mark in copies sold. AC/DC’s “Blow Up Your Video” is already No. 19 after two weeks on the chart. Another sound track--”Good Morning, Vietnam” (No. 13)--should be in the Top 10 next week. Rick Astley’s single, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” took over No. 1 on the singles chart, just as his album, “Whenever You Need Somebody,” soared to No. 10.

* Robert Plant, former Led Zeppelin lead singer, climbs further up the stairway of his solo career. He may get to the music business’ version of heaven--the Top 10. His album debuted at No. 55.
