College Roundup : Chapman Women Lose in the CCAA Tournament

Niki Bracken scored a tournament-record 34 points as Cal Poly Pomona defeated Chapman College, 99-77, at Bakersfield City College, eliminating the Panthers from the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament.
Pomona (25-3), the country’s second-ranked team, will face Cal State Los Angeles in the final on Saturday at Bakersfield City College.
Karan Polk scored 25 points for Chapman (14-12).
In the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn.
Nevada Las Vegas 62, UC Irvine 54--Pauline Jordan scored 13 points to lead host Nevada Las Vegas (21---0, 15-4). Natalie Crawford scored 20 points for Irvine (11-14, 9-8).
In men’s basketball:
Pacific Christian 73, Johnson Bible 70--Brian Keiser scored 22 points to lead Pacific Christian (30-5) to a victory in the first round of the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament at Jimmy Swaggart College.
In nonconference baseball:
UC Irvine 8, Penn State 2--John Seeburger went 3 for 5, with 3 runs batted in, as host UC Irvine (12-9-1) won its fifth straight game. Craig Brink (4-2) struck out nine in picking up the victory.
Christ College Irvine 7, Southern Utah State 6--Sophomore first baseman Mike Armstrong drove in four runs on two hits to lead host Christ College (4-10).
In men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 5, California 4--Mark Kaplan defeated Woody Hunt, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the victory for host UC Irvine, ranked seventh in the nation.
In the Oregon softball tournament:
Cal State Fullerton 5, Oklahoma 0--Jackie Pittman (5-1) allowed just six hits in pitching Fullerton (15-1) top victory in a second round. Fullerton beat Oregon, 3-2, in a first-round game.
