A day of courtroom debate and dickering ended without a decision on whether stock speculator John Mulheren should be released on bail. Mulheren, 38, of Rumson, N.J., was detained on a federal criminal complaint that he threatened to kill convicted stock speculator Ivan F. Boesky and Michael Davidoff, Boesky’s former head trader. Prosecution and defense lawyers argued their case for or against bail for about two hours before U.S. Magistrate Kathleen Roberts as Mulheren sat quietly in the courtroom. Both sides then huddled separately for several hours and met privately before the hearing was adjourned until 11:30 a.m. today.
