Gang Problems in Los Angeles
It was indeed uplifting to read of the young LAPD officer, Carl McGill, attached to the 77th St. Division, raising on his own funds to be used as a reward for information needed to bring to justice the gangster responsible for the wanton shooting of four passengers on an RTD bus in South Los Angeles (Metro, Feb. 27). Officer McGill is to be commended for starting action in the community to weld businessmen, the citizenry and parents of teen-agers in a coalition to reduce crime. Remarkably, he is doing this on his own time. A living, refreshing example of “to protect and to serve.”
