Two men were shot and killed by law enforcement officers in separate incidents Tuesday.
Hong Pyo Lee, 21, of Cerritos, was shot in Long Beach after drove away from Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies following a traffic violation, was cornered in a dead-end street, then “turned and tried to run the deputies over,” Deputy Van Mosley said.
In the second incident, Los Angeles police were called out to investigate a man brandishing a gun in an alley between 74th and 75th streets. Upon arriving, officers confronted Ira Taylor, 27, of Los Angeles, who was recently paroled after serving a jail sentence for a narcotics violation, Lt. William Hall said.
Taylor pointed a 7-millimeter semi-automatic handgun at two officers, one of whom then fired at Taylor with a shotgun, Hall said.
