An End to ‘War of the Cities’?

Iran and Iraq both said today that they will end strikes against their foes’ cities if the other stops the pounding of civilian centers. The attacks have been going on for almost two weeks.

Tehran radio quoted Prime Minister Hussein Moussavi as saying after a Cabinet meeting in Tehran that Iran had received a request from Turkish Prime Minister Turgut Ozal to end its bombardment of Iraqi cities. Ozal sent a similar request to Baghdad to end its missile attacks and bombing of Iranian population centers, he said.
