Cal Poly Pomona will play West Texas State tonight in a National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Division II women’s basketball quarterfinal game that may have the appearance of a championship game.
That’s because West Texas State (31-0)is ranked No. 1 in Division II, while Pomona (28-3) is ranked No. 2. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. in Pomona’s Kellogg Gym.
A major factor in West Texas State’s success has been its defense. The Lady Buffs are giving up an average of 53 points a game, the fewest in Division II.
But they will be tested by Pomona, which scored a two-game Division II record of 191 points in easily winning the NCAA West Regional.
