Danis Paces Point Loma to 5-3 Baseball Win

Catcher John Danis was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base as Point Loma Nazarene College edged Southern California College, 5-3, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.
The game was played at the University of San Diego because repair work is being done on the outfield fence at Point Loma.
Larry Johnson (1-7) picked up his first win of the season for Point Loma (4-17 overall, 1-5 in conference). Joss Johnson (1-3) took the loss for SCC (7-14-1, 4-2).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Wanda Yocom defeated Monse Noboa, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and Grossmont College won 5 of 6 singles matches to defeat Palomar, 6-1, in a Pacific Coast Conference match at Grossmont.
Megan Lowrey beat Kelly Banderlip, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles for Grossmont (11-0-1, 6-0). Palomar is 4-2 in conference.
MEN’S TENNIS
The University of San Diego Invitational team tennis tournament begins with four first-round matches today at USD’s West Courts.
USD (10-7), defending champion, plays its opening-round match at 2 p.m. against Washington.
