Local News in Brief : Error Stalls Cityhood Bid
- Share via
A seemingly harmless error on a voter registration card filed by a paid petition circulator has temporarily stalled Diamond Bar’s latest efforts to become a city.
The county Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) announced that cityhood proponents fell 56 signatures short of the 5,028 needed to begin incorporation proceedings. The Incorporation ’88 Committee will have until April 4 to submit additional signatures.
The county registrar-recorder’s office rejected 177 otherwise valid signatures that were collected by paid petition circulator Ron Dunn because he was not registered to vote in Los Angeles County, as required by state law.
Dunn’s voter registration had been rejected because he listed his year of birth as 1982, said Michi Takahashi, an administrative assistant with LAFCO.
