Where to Put Another Airport
With the obvious need for another light-plane airport facing us, I suggest that Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley be converted into a regional airport.
Since it was originally an emergency landing field for the military, it has three full-length runways already in place. The remaining space could be utilized as an aircraft tie-down storage facility, thereby easing the current shortage of storage places.
With the imminent closure of Meadowlark Airport and the much-publicized storage problems at John Wayne Airport, the opening of an airport in Fountain Valley would solve many of the problems facing the owner-pilot who lives in the southern Orange County region.
Local history is rich in aviation lore. Let’s add a new chapter to that history, instead of closing the book on it.
