Watch the Children

Bob O’Sullivan’s article “To Be Safe Abroad--Keep Money in Your Mouth” (Feb. 14) on the pitfalls of traveling in Europe brought back some similar memories. In 35 days in Italy in 1986 we had three instances in which children so small tried to steal from us that one would not ordinarily be suspicious. One time, a boy about 8 years old tried to take my purse in a church. Another time, a child about 6 years old tried to pick my brother’s pocket. And so it went. The children had to be watched more than the adults.
