Lightning Strikes Mosque in Israel; Woman Is Killed

JERUSALEM — A lightning bolt struck the minaret of a vacant mosque Sunday and sent it toppling onto the home of the building’s caretaker, killing one woman and seriously wounding a child, police said.
A police spokeswoman said the mosque, which was abandoned during the 1948 Middle East War and now sits in an exclusively Jewish suburb of Tel Aviv, looked run-down and was badly battered during heavy winter rains.
