Effort to Buy Parkland Not ‘Doomed’

Patricia Klein Lerner, in her article of Feb. 21, is highly critical that the Historic Oaks Foundation, in less than 11 months of existence, has raised “only” $25,000 of our goal of $14 million to purchase land for a public park in Agoura.
On the other hand, a different organization, the Cultural Foundation, in seven years raises only $75,000 of its ambitious $45-million goal to build an Arts Park in Sepulveda Basin and The Times bestows upon them several articles in 1987 that are neutral.
Ms. Lerner appears to be thoroughly confused between the legally and financial separate entities of the Historic Oaks Foundation and the Northern California-based Living History Centre.
Rather than dignify any of your delusions and conjectures, I instead urge our hundreds of members who live in the San Fernando Valley to call me at (818) 981-3255 and ask their own questions.
After donating hundreds of volunteer hours and funds from my own stretched resources, I refuse to think of my efforts as “doomed.” Whether the Historic Oaks Foundation succeeds or fails to purchase the last remaining portion of the Paramount Ranch is largely fate. But I, for one, shall be able to hold my head high, for I am honestly working towards keeping Agoura, now and in the future, a lovely place for the public to enjoy.
