Del Mar Beaches

Most candidates running for the Del Mar Council readily announce that they stand for slow growth, adherence to the General Plan, to keeping our village atmosphere. The test is how they stand on the issues and in the case of the one incumbent, how she acted in the past.
Ronnie Delaney has invariably supported all developers before the council no matter what their demands. The other two candidates on her slate appear to be heading in the same direction. The only issue currently before us that determines whether one is an environmentalist--one really concerned with preserving the Del Mar village atmosphere and its open space amenities--is the beach issue.
The proposed beach ordinance is a straightforward effort to rescue public beach from the grasp of private beach encroachers. If one is in principle in support of the public’s right to protect the environment he would support the beach ordinance.
Only three of the candidates have come out in support of the beach ordinance. They are Gay Hugo, Jan McMillan and Jacqueline Winterer. They understand the public’s interest and are ready to protect our town and the beach from attack by private interests. They deserve our strong support. We will vote for them and urge our neighbors to do the same.
