David Puttnam, ousted as chairman of Columbia Pictures last year, partly because of his open disdain for the ways of Hollywood, fared quite nicely in the 60th nominations. Two products of his regime, “The Last Emperor” and “Hope and Glory,” were nominated for best picture, and had a dozen other nominations between them.
