2 With Concealed Guns Seized at Rome Airport

ROME — Authorities arrested two men at Rome’s Leonard Da Vinci airport and confiscated five homemade pistols hidden in the speakers of a portable radio in their luggage, police said Thursday.
The two men arrested Wednesday night were identified as Mousa El Ali, 30, and Ahmed El Ali, 26. Both carried Sierra Leone passports and were en route from Beirut to Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The men told investigators they had been working as mechanics in Beirut and had left becuase their work permits had expired. They said they intended to use the .22-caliber pistols to hunt birds. The weapons were discovered during a routine luggage check.
