Rod Strickland, a junior guard from DePaul, is passing up his final year of eligibility to make himself available for the NBA draft.
Strickland is considered by most pro scouts to be a first-round pick but some teams have expressed concerns about his maturity, citing his run-ins with DePaul officials last season.
“I think I’m ready to play in the NBA,” Strickland said. “I think it’s like any other student in college. If they were offered $100,000, $200,000, or $300,000 (a year), I think they would take it, too.”
The only other underclassman to announce his eligibility for the June 28 draft is 7-foot center Tito Horford, a native of the Dominican Republic, who two years ago set off a collegiate recruiting war before settling in at Miami of Florida.
