Dow Chemical Co. said earnings more than doubled from the year-ago first quarter to $507 million. “Every business group contributed to these outstanding results,” said Chief Executive Frank Popoff in his letter to stockholders. “Demand was strong in both the specialty and basic businesses, as well as geographically. Increases in both prices and volume contributed to the first-quarter results.” Midland, Mich.-based Dow Chemical’s segments include industrial and agricultural chemicals, metals, pharmaceuticals, packaging and consumer products.
