‘Agitators/Punitive Expedition’
Hungary, 1969-71, 122 minutes, 10 p.m . One of AFI Fest’s major discoveries is Dezso Magyar’s brilliant, hurtling portrayal of the abortive 1919 Hungarian rebellion--long banned in its own country. Magyar sees the past through a contemporary ‘60s prism: His young revolutionaries fulminate and rage, caught by a restless camera and slashing, propulsive editing. Shown with Magyar’s equally impressive 1971 short, “Punitive Expedition.”
RECOMMENDED.
