‘Bitter Harvest’
U.S.A., 1981, 110 minutes, 7:30 p.m. Warner Building, AFI, 2021 N. Western Ave., Hollywood Earnest account of a young farmer’s efforts to identify what’s killing his dairy herd and imperiling the life of his infant son. The villainy in effect comes from governmental inefficiency. Ron Howard is excellent in the leading role, but the film’s balance of thriller elements and social issues never quite meshes.
