A fire that apparently began in the attic quickly spread into the bedroom of a two-story home in the 700 block of Camphor Street in Newport Beach Thursday afternoon, causing $85,000 in damage, Fire Battalion Chief Augie Wagner said.
No one was injured in the one-alarm blaze, reported by the housekeeper shortly before 3:30 p.m., he said. The flames were controlled by 18 firefighters within 20 minutes.
“It looks like the fire started in the attic, but the cause is still under investigation,” Wagner said.
The housekeeper, the only person home when the fire was reported, first detected smoke coming from a bedroom closet, Wagner said.
