Colombian Communist Leader Shot to Death

BOGOTA — The secretary general of a Colombian Communist party was shot to death at his house in Medellin, police reported.
They said Hernando Gutierrez, 51, had received death threats before three gunmen burst into his home and opened fire Friday. More than 500 people associated with the Patriotic Union party, of which Gutierrez was a leader, have been slain since its formation in 1984.
