It had to happen: “Celebrity Divorce,” a pilot for a syndicated half-hour talk show featuring celebrities and their lawyers talking about their splits. Co-exec producer Stephen Metz--who says his show is a chance for celebs to tell their side of stories splashed in the tabloids--claims he’s already lined up famous guests. But he wouldn’t name names.
Metz also exec-produced TV’s upcoming “American Dream Festival” and co-produced both Broadway and film versions of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” “Celebrity Divorce” has been picked up by Ascot Syndication.
The hardest part, Metz admitted, has been “convincing agents that it’s not a sleaze show.” He promised “an interesting show. It’s going to be well done. . . . I’m not going to try to tell you that it’s going to be an educational experience, but I think that when people watch this show they’re going to find out that celebrities get divorced for the same reasons that they (viewers) do.”
Metz plans to shoot in May for a January start. Target audience: tabloid readers.
