Sailor’s Apparent Beating Death Probed

San Diego police are investigating the apparent beating death of a 20-year-old Navy man whose body was found early Sunday in Southeast San Diego, police said.
The victim, identified by the San Diego County coroner’s office as Timmy Lee Sheats, was found in the 4400 block of Mayberry Street following a fight in which he allegedly was beaten with a baseball bat by another man. Sheats, who was stationed with the Navy’s Fleet Combat Training Center here, died later at Sharp Cabrillo Hospital.
Police said late Sunday that details of the incident remained sketchy and that homicide detectives were continuing their investigation.
