Fox to Telecast 6-Hour ‘Freedomfest’ for Mandela

Fox Broadcasting will telecast an all-star musical tribute from London called “Freedomfest--Nelson Mandela’s 70th Birthday Celebration” on June 11.

The six-hour program in London’s Wembley Stadium will commemorate the birthday of the spiritual leader of South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement. Mandela has been imprisoned for more than 25 years. The concert will be seen throughout the world via satellite.

The lineup of participants includes Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Bryan Adams, the Bee Gees, Eurythmics, Harry Belafonte, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, Gregory Hines and Denzel Washington.
