The State : Delay OKd for Oil Lease Sale
A congressional subcommittee approved a delay in a proposed lease sale off the Northern California coast for oil and gas drilling. The action, taken by a House Interior subcommittee, would postpone any lease sales off Mendocino and Humboldt counties until at least October, 1989. On Monday, Interior Secretary Donald P. Hodel announced a halt to consideration of the lease sale until 1989, leaving the decision on the controversial plan in the hands of the next Administration. Hodel’s move effectively delayed the lease sale, originally scheduled for February, 1989, until August, 1989.
