Two teen-agers about to graduate from Whittier high schools were killed on the way home from school Tuesday, when a car driven by another student smashed head-on into theirs, Whittier police said.
Chad Kerneen and Evan James, both 17, died instantly when a car driven by Gilbert Moreno, 17, also of Whittier, allegedly drifted over to the wrong side of Mills Avenue and hit Chad’s car at high speed, Police Lt. Steve Milakovich said.
Moreno was hospitalized in serious condition. He and James were students at California High School, from where James would have been graduating in a few days. Kerneen was soon to be a La Serna High School graduate.
