Edward L. Marinaro, former chief operating officer at Irvine-based Western Digital Corp., has been named president and chief executive of Cipher Data Products Inc., a San Diego maker of computer data storage equipment. Marinaro assumes the duties previously performed by Gary E. Liebl, who is also Cipher’s chairman and will remain in that post. Marinaro worked for Western Digital from June, 1984, until last March, when he resigned as chief operating officer. Cipher Data has recently been involved in a legal dispute over patent claims with Archive Corp. of Costa Mesa.
