One man was killed and his two companions were injured when a gunman in a passing car fired on the group early Sunday as they drank beer in a parking lot near Griffith Park, police said.
The shooting at Riverside Drive and Los Feliz Boulevard stemmed from a gang rivalry, police said. The dead man, 21, was struck in the chest by a shotgun blast fired from a silver Honda just before 1 a.m., investigators said. He was not identified pending notification of relatives.
The victim’s two companions were struck in the chest and elbow, police said. They were treated at County-USC Medical Center and released. Neither injured man’s identity was immediately available.
Investigators said the car pulled up to the group and a passenger opened fire with a shotgun. The critically wounded man’s friends began driving him to a hospital, but stopped and called paramedics when the victim’s condition deteriorated, officers said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officers said they believe that the shooting was gang-related because the victims wore recognizable gang attire.
