Inmates Cut Fence, Flee Penitentiary in Maryland

JESSUP, Md. — Four inmates who escaped from the Maryland House of Corrections by cutting through a chain-link fence remained at large Sunday as police agencies throughout the state were placed on alert.
The inmates, convicted of crimes including rape, kidnaping and murder, escaped Saturday after briefly taking a prison guard hostage, officials said.
