Stock car driver Bobby Allison’s condition improved from critical to guarded as he continued to recover from injuries suffered in a crash during the NASCAR Miller 500 at Pocono International Speedway in Long Pond, Pa., June 18.

Ed Gossage, a spokesman for Allison’s sponsor, said: “His general overall awareness level has increased from the point where it was last week. He responds more consistently to questions.”
