South Korean champion Chang Jung-koo knocked Japanese challenger Hideyuki Ohashi to the canvas seven times and retained his World Boxing Council light-flyweight boxing title in Tokyo. American referee Carlos Padilla stopped the scheduled 12-round fight at 1 minute 47 seconds of the eighth round.
Meanwhile in New York, Michael Dokes, the former WBA heavyweight champion, continued his comeback after cocaine rehabilitation by stopping Andrew Stokes at 2:58 of the first round at Madison Square Garden. Referee Luis Rivera halted the scheduled 10-round bout when Dokes knocked down Stokes for the third time inside three minutes.
