Local News in Brief : Bomb Squad Removes Military Shell on San Diego Freeway

The Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad removed a live 40-millimeter shell Thursday from a San Diego Freeway overpass, police said.
The military ordnance was found by state Department of Transportation officials about 2:15 p.m. on the shoulder of an overpass near Nordhoff Street in Sepulveda, Sgt. Bob Knapp said.
The bomb squad was contacted and removed the shell about 3:15 p.m., Knapp said. It was later detonated elsewhere.
Police did not know where the shell came from. “It looked like it fell off a truck,” Knapp said.
