The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Friday to buy and staff a $1.5-million surveillance helicopter for the Police Department’s gang suppression unit.
Without discussion, the council approved the money for the specially equipped aircraft. The helicopter would be used by the LAPD’s Gang-Related Active Trafficker Suppression unit that was formed earlier this year.
Mayor Tom Bradley, who sought the funding last month, is expected to approve the council’s action.
