The leaders of two media watchdog groups--Reed Irvine, head of Accuracy in Media, and the Rev. Donald Wildmon of the American Family Assn.--called on CBS Wednesday to apologize to the nation and to fire the people responsible for a “Mighty Mouse” TV cartoon in which they allege the super hero inhales cocaine. Irvine said the cartoon was such “a gross violation of standards of decency that the people responsible for it ought to be fired.” CBS officials in Washington, hosting a courtesy showing of the full cartoon segment for Irvine, Wildmon and representatives of other conservative groups, said they had no comment on the cartoon. Wildmon first leveled the charges of drug use by the superhero mouse in early June after his organization received a complaint from a couple who taped an April show. Animator Ralph Bakshi has denied the cocaine charges, saying Mighty Mouse was smelling the crushed flowers given him earlier by Polly Pineblossom.
