Local News in Brief : Building Moratorium OKd
- Share via
The Palos Verdes Estates City Council on Tuesday adopted an urgency ordinance placing a moratorium on building in areas zoned for multiple dwelling units.
Council members said they were concerned that these areas, which are contiguous to the city’s commercial zones, are “due for recycling,” and city codes regulating them may be inadequate. The moratorium will give staff members a chance to evaluate and update codes governing the construction of units such as townhouses and apartments.
Council members agreed that any redevelopment under current codes could exacerbate parking and traffic problems.
The ordinance, effective immediately, will expire Aug. 26, unless the council extends it.
